Tips and Tricks for a Successful Move

To help you with your relocation, we have compiled a list of various tips and tricks. These are:

  • Spread out the tasks over several weeks before moving day if you plan to pack your goods yourself.
  • Aim for a maximum of 15 to 20 kg for each box. You can get boxes from your mover. Pack heavy items in small boxes and light items in large boxes.
  • We recommend wrapping your fragile objects and your dishes with bubble wrap or blank newspapers individually to protect them, and wrap small items in brightly coloured papers to prevent them from being lost or inadvertently thrown away with the wrapping paper.
  • We also recommend not using regular newsprint ink that can stain your articles. Instead, use blank wrapping paper.
  • Empty spaces in the boxes can be filled with wrapping paper or cloth.
  • Write a general description of the contents on the top and front of each box.
  • Number each room above your door at your new address, and number your boxes according to the room where they should be placed in your new home.
  • Personally take care of the transportation of your precious goods (financial and legal documents, passports, valuable jewellery and photos, medicines, family history records, etc.).
  • Make a box for essentials - toilet paper, toothpaste and toothbrushes, flashlight, screwdriver, tweezers, cardboard cups, plastic glasses, paper towels - to have them handy when you get in your new home.
  • Make sure you've unplugged your appliances and audio systems.
